Associate Professor of Management

Growing up in a multinational family business involved with the manufacturing of building materials in Germany, Torsten has experienced firsthand the many aspects of operating a family enterprise that spans borders, languages and generations.

Torsten is Associate Professor of Management in the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Before joining UNC Charlotte, he was an associate professor at Kennesaw State University, where he was Academic Director of the Doctor of Business Administration Program and Research Director for the Cox Family Enterprise Center.

Torsten is Past President of the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA), the largest network association of family business researchers in the world, and Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier title Journal of Family Business Strategy (JFBS), the second-most-cited academic journal dedicated to the scientific study of family businesses, and among the top third of all management and business journals worldwide.

He teaches entrepreneurship and strategic management at undergraduate and graduate levels. Apart from his academic work, he is an Advisor with Generation6 Consulting, helping families in business leverage their entrepreneurial capabilities to sustain growth and continuity across generations.
