Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC)

Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC)

Founded in 1984, the North Carolina Small Business Technology Development Center is a business advisory resource for growing and developing small to mid-sized businesses. These highly skilled professionals provide services statewide from offices hosted by campuses of The University of North Carolina System.

The SBTDC operates in formal partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, making it a unique and valued asset in the economic development infrastructure of North Carolina. The SBTDC at UNC Charlotte serves the counties of Anson, Cabarrus, southern Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Rowan, Stanly and Union.

Niner-Owned Business Directory

Offered by the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association, this online directory showcases businesses owned by alumni, offering students opportunities to network, collaborate or support fellow Niner entrepreneurs. This is a powerful platform to share your business with the UNC Charlotte community!

Area 49 + Makerspace

Area 49 is on the second floor of J. Murrey Atkins Library, and is open to all current UNC Charlotte students, faculty and staff. It’s designed to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, experimentation, and exploration. These spaces provide students and researchers access to specialized equipment that enables Area 49 to serve as the catalyst for ideation, innovation, and entrepreneurial research and development.

Makerspace is designed to support:

  • Low-tech and high-tech making
  • Prototyping
  • Design thinking
  • Academic or personal projects

The space is equipped for all kinds of making, and contains equipment and materials such as 3D printers, a laser cutter, desktop CNC routers, sewing machines, paints, wood, circuitry kits, textiles and more.
